For too long, I knew I was called to something more but I felt too regular, too commonplace to have such a vision…
What?! Me?! The girl with one pair of weirdly shaded purple jeans who felt so out-of-place, having come from Nigeria with no money and nowhere to live so had to stay in a youth hostel for a long while…
Me! The girl who did not really know anyone and did not find the normal things that people of my age did for fun, all that much fun.
Me! the girl who could only afford to eat rice krispies for breakfast, lunch and dinner…
To this day, I feel like the odd one out…
Surprisingly enough, I even feel like I do not have enough words to express myself (I know that is odd, seeing that I create such a lot of words – written over 10 books, over 2500 blog posts, not counting the ones I did not have time to put on the site, created over 100 online courses – but I think they are all too simple! and why would anyone want to read all of that?)
I keep going though.
Why?
Because I tried to ignore the calling…
I tried to ignore my purpose…
I tried to pretend Papa was speaking to someone else…
And I just ended up sad, depressed, usually broke as I can never do the wrong, misaligned thing for long…
Though I do try – I think my pharmacist stint was the longest thing I did because I really wanted to try and settle into something for the long-term and it felt like I had worked so hard to get there so surely, this had to be my job for life…
But no…
Take heed all you mavericks like me, who keep wondering why you cannot get your act together
Could it be that you are trying to follow the rules that we were told we had to follow?
Maybe it is time to surrender to the call within you.
Maybe it is time to admit to yourself that you are trying VERY hard to do things that do not align with your purpose and so, there is a part of you that does not want it to work AND WILL NEVER LET IT WORK!
Because though you feel ordinary…
You are called to something more…
And as one of my mentors reminded me ‘You cannot prosper in the place of the wrong service’
How many of us stay too long doing the wrong thing for us?
Or simply not doing anything because we cannot abide what we think we should do but also cannot believe that we can make the calling on our life, work…
And so, you get stuck in some limbo land…
TYPE As keep chopping and changing because they have to do SOMETHING
Type Bs keep digging deep within their souls to find the answer that is right in front of their eyes…
Negative emotions thrive as you try to avoid who you are born to be and as you try to distract yourself from the fact that you are not on purpose…
And you either drown yourself out with distraction or you actually DECIDE to deliberately discover your path…
What will it be for you?
I finally chose THE DELIBERATE LIFE…
I finally stopped being passive and stopped thinking that I could EVER create a great life doing anything other than what I wanted to do…
And I wonder now why it took me so long to see that I could never be happy or even totally prosperous, being anyone other than completely ME!
