Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time: Make Room for Your Purpose Now

Your life feels so full.  You are a grown adult and you have so many demands on your time.  Your to-do list is ever-increasing and your mind is so full of activity. (Unfortunately, your mind can be full of thoughts reminding you that you are not enough – “Should I not have done that? Should I have done more of the other?  What will they think of me?  How am I coming across to them?).  And increasingly, you have felt this internal call to find more fulfilment, more meaning and to do more of what matters to you. You have felt off your purpose path and now, you feel the need to get back on it…

But where can you fit that in?

And so, like most people do, you try to fit it in after you have fulfilled all the demands of your current life.  You wait until after you have fulfilled every person’s agenda for you like getting the children ready and to their various places of education, getting yourself to your current work place, giving a whole lot of yourself to ensuring that your company’s demands on you are fulfilled, then coming home to more activity as you get your children from one activity to another and maybe fitting in some errand for your elderly parents and then at the end of a full day, you try to fit in your purpose work, you try to fit in some time to discover yourself and what will make you feel more fulfilled in life.

But all you want to do, at this point, is NOTHING!

You are drained, you are tired, you are fed up and you feel empty of all enthusiasm for anything other than time with Netflix (or Disney) and a sugary or salty treat. You tell yourself that you will relax for a little and then you will do what you promised yourself to do but you just cannot find the strength and before you know it, it is bedtime and you wake up to another day, just like the one before.

The thing you do find time for is some well-meaning negative self-talk – “Oh there goes another day where you have not done what you promised yourself you will do.  There goes another day when you have not accomplished much (forgetting everything you DID do that day), how useless are you that you cannot commit to following through on your plan to uncover and live out your purpose?! Is it any wonder that you are so fat and unhealthy? Look at the way you just keep giving in to lesser things?” and so on and so on goes your inner talk.  It reminds you of every single failure.  It tells you that you are just not that good of a person.  And the more hidden effect of all this inner flagellation is that you distance yourself from the Divine because you convince yourself that you are a horrible, horrible person, undeserving of Divine love and affection.  For some reason, you are convinced that the way to motivate yourself is to beat yourself up and even though it is not actually helping you to do more of what you promise yourself to do, you do not see that and instead you keep making yourself feel ashamed and guilty.

And so, immersed in all this craziness, you cannot see that by a slight rearrangement of your day, you could make room for your purpose.

DO IT FIRST.

As scary as it sounds, why not simply go to bed a little earlier and get your much-needed rest and then wake up a little earlier and do your purpose stuff then? If you do it first then it is done and you then fit the rest of your activities into the rest of the day.  It is surprising how my clients find time to still do all they need to do while creating a more fulfilling life when they simply change how they do things.

PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST each day.

Yes, at first the transition can feel difficult as you are so used to doing things in a certain way and you are so used to having something bad to say about yourself but with a little help from your alarm, you can swap your time around without too much aggravation.  After a time of changing things, it will become normal to you.

Please STOP with the self-flagellation.  There will inevitably be times when you slap the snooze button too many times and still run out of time to do your purpose stuff but again, the inner beating up of yourself does nothing to help the situation so instead handle yourself with an amused and loving self-talk.  Look yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that you are always doing your best and that you are still on track and lovable then possibly get some support and accountability from someone else.

Yes, you can make time for your purpose, even in the craziness of a full life and as you put it first each day and take time also to sit with the Divine, you will find that it becomes easier and easier to drop things out of your life that are not actually all that important to the creation of your free, fulfilled, financially-abundant, love-drenched life – your true design.
