I think there is a quote attributed to Warren Buffet that goes something like “When the whole marketplace/population is holding back in fear, charge forward and when the whole population is charging forward, HOLD BACK”
Ultimately be a contrarian.
And you know what?! I agree with that.
Now, I don’t want to make it all black or white like that because there is some thought involved but the way I see it is that I feel called and purposed for more than most people seem to achieve in their lifetime so why on earth would I do what most people do or even think like most people think?
I was lurking in a FB group, a second ago and got interested in a thread about what to do if someone asks to be a friend on Facebook when you do not know who they are and whether you would ever ask others to add you as a friend on FB when you do not really know them.
And for most people the response was some variation of “NO, they are just trying to sell to me…”, “No, I do not know who they are”, “No, I don’t want unknowns on my FB profile, they can join my page”…
And personally, I kinda laughed a little inside as everyone just went along with the popular ‘normal’ viewpoint without really thinking it through.
Bearing in mind that all these people called themselves entrepreneurs and for most people, the biggest problem you will face is a lack of an audience, I could not understand why they felt that growing their audience was a bad thing.
I will tell you why…
They were thinking like the masses, not like someone building a business that could change lives…
Why on earth would you not want to expose you and your business to more people?
Don’t you believe in what you are offering the world? Or are you like the masses, trying to separate the private you from the work you, thinking that it creates some ‘balance’ thing?
Now the truth for me is that I may not be on social media at all, if not for the fact that I am purpose-driven…
If not for the massive call in my heart to reach many, many people and support them in achieving financial independence and Freedom in all areas of their life and so for me, it is a no brainer to ensure that I continually grow my audience in whatever way I can…
(I simply set up privacy settings that allow only certain people to see more private things! – Thank you FB for providing that option)
And so, if someone asks to be my friend on FB, I have no problem with it at all because they will be exposed to my writings and offers that will change their life so to me, it is a no-brainer – I tend to say yes unless it is VERY OBVIOUS that their intention is plain old silly. (You know how much I hate the ‘Hi’ private messages!)
And yes, I continually add to my audience as well proactively because again, I am committed to reaching as many people as I can – Some ignore me and I just don’t care because I am on mission.
This is not the thought process of the masses of course, but I AM NOT THE MASSES!
I am born for more and so, I take a few moments to ensure I am not just going along with the mass flow of thought when actually I feel called to turn the tide!
And that is just one almost insignificant way that I choose to be different from the masses…
And if you are an entrepreneur/creative who does want to impact more people, you may want to reconsider your position on this as well!
But go on, think about what you think about…
Think about the actions you take that seem so normal…
Are you being deliberate?
Or are you passively going with the flow thinking that that is the only way to think about and do things?
You are born for more too…
You are longing to live out the call on your life…
And you want to accomplish more in this one lifetime of yours than most other people around you so get to being DELIBERATE about what you are up to!
Fight for, deliberately design the life you are born to live
Because you want to!
