Starting your own business? – Here’s 5 reasons Why You Really Shouldn’t Do It!

  1. You enjoy the blame culture.

Well, that won’t work! There is no one available to blame. We are all getting on with building our own dream lifestyle and business, taking the hits, the knocks and the triumphs in our stride.

If you want your own business, you must be willing to be completely responsible for whether you succeed or fail.

Others may assist you and mentor you but ultimately, the work is down to you. There is no blame culture allowed.

  2. You want the easy button

Well, then the easiest thing to do would be to stay in your comfortable job. It was not easy to get your career in gear and it will also demand a lot from you to get your business going.

I, too, used to be one of those that invested 4 years at university and 1 year ‘on-the-job’ training, not to mention all the schooling that came before that and even 2 years postgraduate diploma…

All of that to become a competent pharmacist and I thought I could just fall into a business and have it be successful in two seconds flat.

Needless to say, things did not work out quite so easily. Sorry but not sorry, you too will need to do the work.

  3. You think it is wrong to make money from something you are good at.

OK then, don’t. Keep doing the boring stuff in a job that does not fulfill you instead of get deliberate about dealing with your beliefs about how to make money and where.

The workman deserves his pay! If you are good at something, use it. Why make starting a business any more difficult than it is by choosing to do something you don’t want to do all because you think it will make you money.

Deliberately choose to make money doing what you love to do.

    You can, you know?

  4. You think it is all about the hard slog

Yes, I know I already mentioned the easy button but that does not mean you have to work until you die. Too many times, I see people build businesses that drain their life force and so they get cynical when people like me come along and talk about doing things you actually like rather than just getting stuck in a business that is not much more than a job.

You can choose the hard, life-draining slog if you want, but why?

Yes, you will work hard but if you are working hard doing what you like to do, does it feel like the hard slog? To me, doing this work is a wonderful privilege. I cannot believe that I get to make money doing exactly what I had always been told was impossible to do.

I read, I write, I even sing at times and I invite people to work with me and I make money!

    Woohoo!!!! I am so thankful.

  5. You think you have all the answers

Again, I think of those ‘leaders’ who seem to think that they are now too successful to need any more growth or support or anything. They know it all and they would rather be right than happy.

Well, if that is you, good luck with that!

Or you could just choose to realize there is always another way of doing things. You could step off your high horse for a second and consider if this is really all you want out of life and business. And you can make a different choice.

That is personal growth and when you are willing to do the work of personal growth, it is then and only then that you should even consider starting your own business.

So, there you have it…
