So, are you fed up of working for the man and you are now ready to begin starting a business from scratch, to be the captain of your own ship, to stake your claim and never back down until you get exactly what you want out of your life and business?
Then great, it is an exciting and much needed thing to do.
The world needs people with good ideas to step their game up and take the bull by the horns and create change on the planet. You have an opportunity here to really impact a lot of people whether it is those who work for you or those who you serve (customers).
Take the responsibility seriously, ok?
What key things do you need to consider…
Here they are
1. Are you passionate about what you are about to do?
Please do not fall in with the ‘make money’ crowd and just do what you think will make you the most money. Maybe, you will get rich but then will you be happy with the way you create the wealth. You have an opportunity at the start of setting up your own business to really choose to do something that makes you come alive. You have probably sold your sould already to an employer, haven’t you? Why do you want to do that in your own business?
For real this time, do your own thing!
The thing that you are best placed to do.
Don’t do anything just because it will create wealth.
Whatever you choose to do, understand that you will be working pretty darned hard so why not work pretty hard at doing something that does not feel like hard work because you actually love to do it!
Come on! Give yourself a chance to live a fulfilling life.
2. What will you sell?
There are so many options available to you these days. There are people who will pay you to promote their own stuff online and offline. And of course, you can create your own product or you can sell your expertise.
If you have spent a great deal of time in a corporate career then the chances are that you have a skill that others will pay you handsomely for if you tell them about it.
You can provide a done for you service or you can package your ideas and sell them as products for people to use independently of you. The choice is yours.
Do not limit your business ideas to just what you aer familiar with – People make money with their businesses in all kinds of ways so why not think outside the box and see what could be available to you. As I already said, you are goingto be working hard at this, you may as well enjoy the journey.
3. Who do you need to register with?
Depending on the rules in your country, you may need to consider what government body you need to register with so that you do not get into trouble with anyone.
Do a quick google search for the rules that apply in your country.
Speak to a local accountant – they usually offer a free consultation to start with.
Speak to a legal person about any contracts that you may need.
Speak to an insurance person, particularly if you are going to be working with staff or customers on site anywhere.
Better safe than sorry but at the same time, do not let these boring bits stop you moving forward. I am led to believe that some people do not start businesses because they get worried about this stuff. This is the smallest part of being legal as you run your business. Do not let fear escalate something that is not that big a deal.
