I was brought up catholic
Full of pomp and ceremony
Stand up at a certain point
Sit down at a certain point
Or else, suffer the wrath of mother for embarrassing the family by not knowing when to do what
It made me think of Papa that way…
Full of pomp and ceremony
Full of solemnity and judgment, if I stepped out of line
No room for real relationship in that
Too scared to be truly connected to this ‘POWER THAT BE’ who could blast me off the face of the planet as easily as draw me close…
I felt like the child of an erratic parent…
Never quite sure if this time I would get a smile or a beating
And so, I learnt to distrust this power
Put on a front, hoping that He would not mind too much the muck inside of me
And yet being told at every point that His eyes could see EVERYTHING and He Judged EVERYTHING and He Found me Wanting!
And afraid that He might come back and leave me to face the tribulation all alone
And I would be one of the damned
And growing up in Nigeria… Man, that did not help!
there was always some new movie coming out about the rapture and how the poor and suffering souls, like cinderella, would be rescued but everyone else LEFT BEHIND to be destroyed in the tribulation
It made you want to be a poor and suffering soul so that you would be rescued!
And let us not talk about all the black magic movies…
This person killing that person for money or love or whatever they wanted…
And there was supposedly a black magic witch in my own family too!!!! and we were all told to steer clear of her…
So much murky spirituality
It made one afraid!
And this sense of helplessness at this ‘POWER THAT BE’
A sense of helplessness at life itself
You grow passive
And feel victimised
But the truth that I have now come to see is this…
I have limitless power lying dormant within me…
Because I am literally a God Unit, like everyone including YOU!
There is nothing out there waiting to judge me
I am doing a pretty good job of that myself…
I am not a victim of life
Life unfolds based on my thoughts, my focus, my words, my feelings, my fears…
An effective way to control people is to fill peeps with fear and then, most will go in the direction you want them to go in…
Parents do it
Religious organisations do it
Media does it
Teachers do it
Politicians do it
And most people mean well when they use fear to control others…
Most do not even realise they are doing it
But it is still control
But this is something else I realise…
Control is not bad or good
It just is.
No one can control anyone else without their permission…
Given deliberately or passively
While I chose not to think for myself and come to my own conclusions, I allowed others to have power over me…
And yep, I can blame them if I choose
I can tell myself stories of how I had no choice, if I choose
But that just prolongs the period of time when I am under their control…
Instead, I choose to own my power now.
I choose to remember who I am now…
I choose to give myself to the practice of my power to deliberately design life now…
I choose to connect with Papa (Source) and learn all I can about my purpose, my power and so much more…
I started this thinking I would talk about the #SpiritSpeak that came through this morning for the OPULENCE CIRCLE clients…
All about spirituality being fun and simple rather than pomp and solemn ceremony and ritual
But then, the words took me in a different direction…
I invite you to take back your own power too…
To remember that you have limitless power within you
To stop being enamoured by some story of hardship
To stop being so taken in by the physical reality when you know in your heart of hearts that you are much more than that…
WAKE UP, my love.
