Follow your heart, follow your heart, follow your heart or so they all say…
And you find yourself wondering how on earth to do that when life feels tough at the moment.
But hey, all the gurus say it so it must be true…
So you try it out for size, You do a bit of what makes you happy and you get no response whatsoever from the people you want to work with and so…
You start looking around again, seeing what someone else is doing and wondering how on earth you are supposed to follow your heart when it does not seem to be giving you the results you want.
Surely, it is all about strategy or so this other guru says…
Surely, the more time you spend looking at someone else’s stuff, the more likely you are to figure out the magic bullet and then… THEN you can apply it to your business and make things happen, right?
And yet, when you go off to do it all just like all the goo-roos tell you, you realise it just ain’t working STILL!!!
And now you hate it even more because you are not even being yourself at all – You listened to the strategy dude or dudette who cared, not a sausage, about your whole life – They told you what worked for them and you considered it the gospel truth so you started to try to be like them.
And frankly, you just cannot see what you are doing wrong.
You have tried following your heart…
You have tried putting in place all the strategy…
You have even tried to get away from your old friends & all their negativity…
And yet, you are still broke, still struggling, still not getting the results that everyone said would magically happen just by following this 1-2-3 strategy!
Aaargh! How long can you keep doing this for?
So, you find yourself slowly but surely, going back to your old life – your comfortable life.
And you wonder why you are still not happy!
BE HONEST!!!!!
Be REALLY TRULLY HONEST WITH YOURSELF!!!!
Are you really doing it all?
Or are you just playing at doing it all?
Did you dip your finger in it for a little while with the notion that you were going to give this a go for 1 month, 1 week, 6 months, 1 year and then you were going to quit if it did not work immediately.
Did you actually do the work consistently, day in, day out?
Or did you just pretend to be doing the work?
Are you waiting for someone to give you accolades and then you will be sure that this is the work that you need to be doing?
How many ‘No’s have you actually received?
How many people have you actually spoken to?
Really, lets add the strategy to the passion stuff – Let’s really look at the numbers, the hours, the drops of blood you actually, really shed before you decided it was not working and you were now going to give up and return to the ‘normal’ world?
The thing the gurus do not tell you clearly is that joy comes mixed with disappointment…
Opportunity is always mixed up with hard work…
For every 1 person that likes you, there will possibly be considerably more who do not like you (particularly at the start!)
The tears you will cry as you try to make this business of yours work…
The fights you may have with your spouse as you shell out again for coaching, for training, for some other ‘must have’ thing that they do not think you need…
The pain as you uncover the real ‘YOU’…
The loneliness of being the only one that can see the dreams in your own heart – The dreams that feel pretty horrid because it feels like they are there only to taunt you not actually to be realized…
And the horrid feeling of waking up and not really knowing what to do next – the feeling that all creativity is gone in desperation…
A desperate need to make it work…
And so there are two types of people reading this…
The ones that go back to ‘normal’
And the ones that keep on fighting because you know there is no other way…
There is nowhere to go!
There is no looking back…
You know what lies behind you and it ain’t pretty so why would you go back there. Back to a life where you were dissatisfied following the rules of what life is supposed to look like.
Underneath all the drama and pain, there is a knowledge that you must continue because the worst thing would be to get to the end of life and look back with regret that you gave up so easily…
That you allowed the crazy voice in your head to make you stop…
That you allowed those horrid & sometimes loving, naysayers to put the brakes on your dreams…
Listen, honey… there are only three things that you need to do to keep growing your business and you must stick to these like a robot…
A robot that never looks away from doing what they are programmed to do…
There will be time to feel sorry for yourself when you are successful (if you still feel like it).
There will be time to cry, wail and take a break when you are doing the thing you dream of doing… (if you still want to)
For now, keep it this simple
- Get in front of as many people as you can in many different ways each and every day – speaking, networking, blogging, be in a forum, join Facebook groups, answer people’s questions, connect with past acquaintances, leaflet-ing, social media etc
- Invite people into your world every single day – Increase the number of people in your circle of influence – Grow your mailing list (or social media presence – this one you have less control over)
- Offer to serve these people each and every day in any way you can
As in, invite people to buy from you, work with you and put down some money each and every day.
Even if you get nothing else right and you do this each and every day and stop looking for that magic bullet, you will finally start to make sales. You will start to get an understanding as to how best to serve more people.
You will get better at being ‘YOU’ authentically
You will get better at making money YOUR way as well.
Be committed to being a pro, no longer an amateur swaying to the whims of the people in your world and the thoughts in your head.
Be a professional. Show up in business and your life every day and dare to make your dreams and passions come to pass.
Combine the passion stuff with the strategy stuff and never forget to fight for & create the life, the business you want which will probably not look like anyone else’s version of life at all.
Be comfortable with that!
