Why do you find it so hard to step into business and show up fully?
It got me thinking about my experience of making the transition from being pharmacist to being a business owner – I found it tough and on some days, if I am not deliberate about things, I still hide.
I was trained to be the one with the answers…
I was trained to be the calm one when all hell breaks loose…
I had to always be the expert because people needed to trust my certainty when their health was shaky…
I was also well covered by the brand of the company I worked for and so I did not need to show up properly…
And then I jumped into business and I wanted to keep hiding.
No one was allowed to see my uncertainty.
And everyone was expected just to know how awesome my business was because well…, I had hung up my shingle.
Nope, it did not work.
I had to stop being passive and start being supremely deliberate about getting the word out and telling people what I was about… or go hungry, get desperate and sell absolutely NOTHING!
Maybe you are suffering from the same thing. Your business is awesome but no one seems to be coming to buy from you. I see this with clients and these are a few reasons why and how to deal with it.
1. You are still in goo roo mode.
You did that at work but it does not work in your small business. If you do not show up as a PERSON that is willing to walk alongside your customers, clients, recruits then they will be so in ‘awe’ of your supposed greatness that they will not come to you. Take off the veil, be a human being, invite them in and see people flock to you because they feel they now can.
2. You forget that no one else is doing the marketing for you
At work, others were responsible for the marketing and you just delivered the service or sold the product. Now, it is just you! You have to tell everyone, everywhere about who you are and what your business is about. No one else will do it at the start.
Do you want to help people?
Then you have to tell them. You have a responsibility to show them how you can help. Please do it!!!
You have to learn some marketing. Nope, you don’t have to be the best in the world at it but you do have to be the best at putting yourself out there or finding people to support you in doing it.
3. You feel like an imposter
You keep doubting yourself. Logically you know you are good. You know that what you do is good stuff but deeper than logic is the fear that you are rubbish and any moment now, someone is going to find you out and so you stay hidden again and again.
Stop it!
You are not the best judge of what you are capable of. Determine to put yourself out there regardless of what you feel. Go with the logic of it – You know you are good. Let others experience it. No matter how much money you make, you will always feel this imposter thing but you still have to choose confidence and self belief anyway. If you are going to change lives, if you are going to create wealth, you have to train yourself to act despite the crazy voice inside. The ‘norms’ wait until they are perfect and guess what? They do NOTHING!
Don’t let that be you.
DON’T LET THAT BE YOU! You are not a norm. You are capable of such a lot more than that. You know it but your actions are making you act like a norm.
ENOUGH!
Step it up – BE Clear, BE productive, BE wealthy!
