You have a goal, a plan, you know what you want to create and you keep chugging along at it and then you raise your head a little and all you see is how long you have to go before you actually get where you want to be.
And you get disheartened, right?
It feels like no matter how hard you push, things are not going the way you want them to go yet.
It feels hard, it feels annoying and some days, you want to throw something out of the window.
I have many days like this when it just feels annoying.
I AM pretty blessed to live my current lifestyle and I never forget that but I know there is more for me to do so onwards and upwards.
The thing is, ‘onwards and upwards’ comes with its challenges and I have those as much as the next ‘onwards and upwards’ person.
People look at the successful and think somehow they have it all together all the time. They think they are in some way super human.
For instance, when I tell people I home educate, they immediately assume I must have the patience of a saint because they launch into telling me how they do not have the patience to do it.
I used to jump in and tell them that I don’t either but I have chosen to do it. I tell them they can choose it too, particularly if their kids are suffering at school but then I learnt really quickly that actually people just said that to let themselves off the hook.
If they convinced themselves that they could not do it because they lacked the ‘patience’ then they would not have to do it.
And people do that in business too.
They tell me that I must be really good, I must be particularly gifted in some way or they might even think that I am lucky when the simple truth of the matter is that each one of us is all those things and ultimately, it comes down to the choices people make.
I made a choice no longer to settle into working for someone else and so, I do whatever it takes to make it a continuing reality for me.
They have not made that choice and so they dither, dabble and pretend to be less than what they are.
All kinds of excuses come up about not knowing ‘how to’ do this, not being able to afford that and so on and so forth and I listen, smile and change the subject.
I get tired of it.
I get tired of people pretending they cannot do things.
I get tired of me pretending I cannot do whatever I set my mind to.
We forget so easily how big a deal it was to walk once upon a time and then we did it.
We learnt to read…
We excelled in our work…
Some of us even produced children…
We grew up and somehow managed to look after ourselves, keep families fed, sometimes by the skin of our teeth but we are still standing…
We are all pretty darned capable and yet, we give up on our dreams so easily. We live a life of regret so easily. Such a pity.
Anyway, I have spent the morning so far tweaking Facebook ads and that always frustrates me. People want to sell you blueprints on how things definitely work and they forget to mention just how much tweaking it all can take and how much time you will spend getting things to work.
I have about THREE THOUSAND deleted ads that have not worked in my Facebook Ad account and no one mentions any of that.
They tell you about the one that did work and never let you in to the fact that it took THREE thousand to get to that one ad and so you try one advert and it does not work and instead of just getting on and trying another one, you tell yourself that you just do not know how to do it.
And so you feel bad about your life, your business, everything.
And I used to do this… Now, I just get fed up about the amount of time it all takes and man, I cannot wait to get my hubby onboard to start learning all this stuff so I can leave it with someone I trust to get it done.
And if there is a point to all this rambling, it is this…
Everything about life is mostly test and tweak.
There is no easy button to wealth – There is a faster path which is to get support in the form of someone holding you accountable to keep moving forward when the inevitable mistakes are made and adverts fail and all of that stuff.
But ultimately, you or someone else has to put something out there, check the results and tweak until it is exactly what you want. You cannot give up just because you did not get it right the first, second, fiftieth or even one-thousandth time.
If you have a goal, a big idea, a plan for your life, then you keep moving forward until it happens…
Simple.
Frustration at times is inevitable.
But it is not a reason to stop.
It is just a reason to learn the lesson (if there is one), tweak and keep moving.
That is it.
And yet, people keep making it mean something about them as an individual.
Just stop it already.
It is all a part of the journey.
