Build Your Strengths, Not Your Weaknesses.

Build your strengths, not your weaknessesOK, Heads Up! Are you trying to get stronger in things that do not come to you naturally? How does that make any sense?

I do understand though, we all (or at least most of us) went to school where we were trained to be good at everything. They tried to give us a general education and we lapped it up and thought that was the way to do things until one day, we were asked what we wanted to focus on for the rest of our lives. And in that moment, we learnt that actually, no… being a generalist was not the way to do things. The world wants us to be good at ONE thing.

I am not completely into the whole ONE thing, either as I consider myself multi-passionate. However, here is something I completely agree with – We do have to focus on the things that make us come alive. We do have to spend more time on the things that come easiest to us and the things that are more joy inducing rather than trying to make our weaknesses a little bit better.

Because this is the thing, no matter how much time you spend on your weakness, trying to make it stronger, if you were a ‘1’ at it, then after all that time, energy and work, you might get to a ‘5’ – Woohoo! (not) You are now AVERAGE!

And that is all!

What is the point?

Now, imagine you just accepted that you were no good at this ‘1’ skill of yours and found someone else to do it while you took your ‘5 or more’ skill or strength and you used all that energy, time and work to develop that skill, guess where you could get that too?

Yep, you could become a ‘9’ or even a ‘10’ – And as the good book says – “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.” You could get some influence, peep!

So, please leave your weaknesses alone, love them but leave them alone.

Figure out the stuff that you are pretty good at naturally and do more of that, improve that, focus on becoming your very best at that thing or those things and live a life of ease as you do more of what you are designed to do.

Fight for, create the life, the business you want.
