Why Do I Need A Lead Magnet?

If you have been in business for any length of time and in any way, involved in the online world, you will have heard the term ‘lead magnet’ or ‘opt in’ or something along those lines. You might find yourself wondering what it is all about.

 

And you might even, unfortunately, think that your business is exempt from this and so not looked too closely at how it could help your business.

 

That is unfortunate. It is not the only way to build a mailing list but it certainly is pretty effective at helping you do so with a highly targeted audience, rather than just any person who has a pulse.

 

I have heard of business owners buying email lists and just sending out an email when they felt like it. It can work for a short while until the moment someone reports you for spam and after paying that hefty fine, you might realize that it is better to market to people who have given you permission.

However, just my opinion, of course.

So , why do you need a lead magnet?

 

  1. Permission

    I have already alluded to this but people like to be asked before they get sold to. They do not like being disturbed and neither do you. So, taking the time to put together a lead magnet is time well spent because it allows people to make the choice as to whether they want to hear from you or not.

  2. Follow up & build relationship

    Most people are not walking around thinking they want to buy your stuff right now unless for some reason, they are particularly desperate. Building a mailing list allows you to follow up with people who have given you permission. Permission based marketing is the best kind. And also, you get to put your message to a lot of people time and time and time again.

    You also create friends who care about you and who you care about.

  3. Understand what they want.

    It helps you understand people better and so when you put together your marketing materials for your product, you are able to use language that helps your prospects to see how what you offer will actually help them.
  4. The money is in the list

    You may have heard this before but it is true. On average, you can be making $1 for each name on your list and some people make even more. It becomes a source of security, it is an asset to build a responsive list of names and then be able to offer them something that really helps them.
