Videos are all the rage at the moment. Every one seems to want to watch them but lots of entrepreneurs do not want to do them. It feels far too exposing and yet, it is an incredibly effective way of building an audience of people who know, like and trust you. Particularly if your business is mostly online.
Once you have got past the reluctance to do the videos, here are a few video ideas to help you get started…
1.Tell Your Story
This is a great way to introduce yourself to your potential customers, clients, recruits. No, this is not a pointless ramble about how awesome you think you are. NO! Nobody really cares, particularly when you are just getting started in business. Instead, make sure you connect relevant parts of your story to the journey that your prospects are likely to be going through.
The great thing about this is that people can connect to you as a person. They start to feel as though they know you. You become a friend in their heads so it is KEY that you pick out relevant stories from your life and use them in some of your videos to build rapport with prospects who may never meet you in person.
2. Top Tips
What do you know about your product? What top tips can you give? This can be done with you being visible or you can put the tips on a presentation and record your screen as you talk over the presentation. Keep it short and sweet. This is not a webinar so it is not expected to go on forever.

3. How To Videos
Fairly obvious, of course. Take people through the steps of something they are interested in knowing how to do and at the end, have a call to action. Tell them what to do next. How do they buy from you?
4. Event Driven video
Is there some event about to happen? Weave that into a video that you do for your peeps. Connect the event to a story that relates a specific thing, maybe teaches a point or is just slightly random.
Sometimes, people feel everything has to be in some way directly related to their product but it is not true. You can use a random video to express a little more about what you are about and connect more deeply with your prospects. Think soap operas – they do not always go aywhere at all but they are entertaining and draw people in so don’t be afraid of a little ‘random’ in your videos.
5. Review Video
Can you review an item that you are selling? You do not have to sound positive about every single aspect of it, as you do want to come across as unbiased as possible or else you will not get the trust from the viewer. If it is likely that they are thinking it, mention it or else you come off far too salesy. Of course, you can explain why it is still a valid choice or you can send them to an alternative product to buy.
6. Resources Video
What are the best resources for your people? It could be a series of blog posts that your people need to read or maybe even books that could give them insights, a list of apps that can get them a quick result, anything that will support the use of your product or service. Think about it and be known as the expert in your field
7. The ‘Give Your Opinion’ Video
This can be a controversial video where you share your ideas about a particular topic and they may be ideas that the majority do not agree with. You start to stand out as a thought leader when yuo do this. Just make sure you have the confidence to deal with the potential backlash.
8. Promote Your Stuff Video
And then of course, you can just have the “I am going to blatantly tell you about my thing’ video. This is just a bold request for a sale. You tell people what you have and why they should buy it and HOW they can buy it. Get very specific abotu what you want them to do next to make a purchase. Do not assume they know. BE VERY CLEAR!
And make sure you list out all the benefits as well. Not just the features of your thing. Appeal to their emotions because people do not buy on logic. They buy because you make them feel good and they rationalise the purchase with logic.
9. “Breaking News’ Video Ideas
What is breaking in your industry? Can you do a quick video telling people exactly how it affects them? Yes, you can give your opinion but this is more about telling people how the recent news article helps or hinders them? How can they most benefit from it or how can they avoid getting a negative result?
10. Testimonial Video
Can you ask a satisfied customer to give you a testimonial on video? It does not have to be too long and try to catch them at the moment when they feel particularly inspired by your service or product. It does not tend to get done unless you ask for it so make sure you ask people to keep sending in testimonials to you.
