Some days… (Well, let’s be real… ) MOST days, the narrow path does not feel clear… It feels like you walked into the middle of a forest and it is also a maze and somehow, in the dark you are supposed to find your way out and it feels incredibly tough, and you keep banging in to things!
And you get fearful and you wonder if you will ever make it to the other end…
You wonder if you have what it takes…
You wonder if you are not just a deluded fool taking a walk in the bad part of town for no reason other than your delusions…
And it takes faith to stay on course.
It takes SUPERHUMAN faith…
Which you do have access to, even though sometimes you doubt it.
And you think you are alone in feeling this way…
You are not.
The work you are called to do, the success you want to experience, is like nothing you have ever done before and it is like nothing most of the people around you have ever done before so of course, it feels lonely and weird.
And yes, you feel uncertain…
Anyone who has ever done anything of note will attest to this feeling.
Every time, I stretch myself into a new level, I experience it and it takes everything within me to stay on the path and keep walking.
You have heard the saying
“Another level, Another Devil” right?
It literally feels like that at times, doesn’t it?
It gets tough and yet, in those moments, in those LONG PERIODS OF TIME when it feels dark and you feel like you are wandering aimlessly in a very dark forest…
Pick a tree and climb it.
What do I mean?
You have heard the other saying…
“Can’t see the forest for the trees”
Well, that applies here.
The only way that your jaunt through the forest does not become a pointless exercise in the dark, scary place that can be your narrow path…
The only way to keep your focus in the right place…
Is to climb a tree metaphorically!
You have to keep the outcome, the goal firmly in mind and how do you do that?
1. You write it out and you write it out, and you write it out.
You write it out, you read it to yourself, you imagine it, you feel the feeling of being at the outcome, you act as though you are THAT person already and you write it all out again!
I know there is a lot of writing involved and at times, you wonder if it is possible that writing youor goals out can help at all but it does because if not, you forget why you are in that scary forest. You get overwhelmed with fears and doubts and wonderings as to whether it will ever happen for you and you start walking in circles…
One day, you feel good and so you take a few steps forward…
The next day, you feel pulled back to earth by some normal life event, your child’s principal says they are not paying attention in school and it is of course all your fault, you get a bill for the heating and you think that means you have your head in the clouds too long, you start to worry about your future and pensions and all that ‘norm’ stuff and whether what you are doing now, will mean anything good in the future…
You wonder if you did actually hear the word from God or are you just deluded? After all, it is just little old you, how can you step out into doing anything amazing…
You have a devastating argument with your partner and again, it makes you feel like nothing you do is worthwhile…
All of this regular life stuff takes on new meaning when you are stuck in the dark forest, trying to stay on path but getting distracted and fearful.
And so you keep circling back to the start.
You have been doing this for the longest time.
Yes, you have been successful by the standards of many but that very succes has trapped you into thinking that this is all there is for you. As Gay Hendricks puts it in that great book “the Big Leap”, you hit your upper limit and now you are not sure how to break through it. In fact, most of the time, you do not see the problem. You think that it is the responsible and normal thing to do to forget about dreams and instead, get bogged down in being practical… and for many, it is the norm.
But you are not a ‘norm’, are you?
You DO have those big ideas, don’t you?
You KNOW you are called to do something bigger than you currently have, right?
And yes, you are fed up of going round and round in circles.
So, climb a tree…
And see the forest!
Write out those goals again. Remind yourself why you are doing this?
And remember you will only ever get what you expect to get so you really do need to raise those expectation levels!
Write out new affirmations for yourself that you can use during each day to remind yourself of what you are called to do. If you do not do this, you will get sucked back into overwhelm and busy work to maintain the status quo, rather than break through your glass ceiling.
2. Find people whose normal is higher than your normal to hang out with.
What do I mean?
At the moment, you are hanging out mostly with people whose normal way of being, whose expectations of life are low and so you have the biggest ideas in that group and you feel weird for having those ideas! The people around you also think you are weird for wanting more than you currently have. After all, what you have is pretty good.
So, if you are hanging out with people who think this, how can you expect to break through your limits when it looks as though you already have?
You need a new group of peeps to hang out with!
Where unlimited success is the norm.
Where you are the least successful so that you have to raise your limits to fit in and somehow, honey, you will find a way to make it happen because you ARE NOT A NORM!
(I keep saying this to you but I am not sure you completely understand yet. You are designed to live BIGGER!)
No, you do not have to hate on all your old friends but you do need to create space for new friends if you really do want to make it through this forest.
Start to be discerning and start to put yourself in uncomfortable situations where people further ahead of you on the journey are.
Do whatever it takes to make it happen – Join Mastermind groups (RosemaryNonnyKnight.com/dmfasttrack), go to events and link up with new people (I know this may make you nervous as you are not that social, are you?), go to coffee with new people, find a coach that can expose you to more, pay for an audience with certain people – DO WHATEVER IT TAKES!
You have to climb the tree and see the whole forest!
And once you remember the outcome, once you uplevel your thinking and being, you start to consistently move forward…
Even though it is still dark in the forest and all you can see are the trees, you know where you are headed, you feel refreshed for having seen the outcome again and you keep on the narrow path and you keep moving confidently forward to your end goal.
Fight for, create the life you want. The world awaits your awakening.
