It is a strange world we live in, don’t you think?
It seems to be the norm to feel a little awkward about making money and being rich while it is noble to be poor and broke and struggling financially.
Oooh, did that rub you up the wrong way? Well, EXACTLY, that is what I mean.
Why is money such an emotional thing?
It is just a THING, after all!
And yet, you feel guilty about it.
And while you feel guilty about it, you will find it hard to make much of it because you will not let yourself play the game full-out and make the money.
This particular affliction is pretty hard on creative types or anyone who creates something to sell themselves because they also start to feel that whatever they are selling is not worth the money someone pays for it.
It gets pretty confusing when you are trying to be an entrepreneur and you have all these awkwardnesses with money!
So, can I put a 2 new thoughts in your mind?
This is not a zero sum game
One big guilt you may have with making money is the thought that there is a limit to what is available in the world. And by you ‘taking’ money from one person, you are reducing their access to money or even more weird is the thought thatyou making money means someone somewhere around the world is losing money because there is a limit to the supply of money and so your gain is their loss.
The only limitation anyone has to access wealth is one of their own making and before you acuse me of being unsympathetic, please remember that I have actually LIVED in a third world country and most people who propagate this lie, HAVE NOT!
We human beings are creatures of limitless potential – If we actually wanted to end world hunger, we could and no, not just ‘the rich’, this has to be an ‘everyone’ thing because even if all the so-called ‘rich’ gave away their wealth to the so-called ‘poor’, I promise you that within 1 year or so, things will be back to the way they were before the wealth was redistributed, apart from a very few people who would actually take advantage of the opportunity, because honey, it is not the lack of wealth that causes poverty, it is a mindset.
And you alone, cannot fix that.
In fact, by indulging in this manner of thinking you are propagating the problem. We do not live in a zero-sum world – There is abundance within each one of us and it is only as you do things like release your art and your unique gifting and allow other to experience them, does abundance start to spread to people who cannot seem to see it. There is enough for everyone, allow yourself to experience it.
2. It is not all about you
I am being a little harsh, I know but I want to jar you into thinking a different way.
Another reason you may be feeling guilty is because you think that your work is not good enough to warrant anyone paying you good, hard-earned money for it. And you forget that it is not your choice as to whether someone likes your work, your product, your service, or opportunity or not. It is not for you to tell them what to like or not to like.
Your self-doubt is attempting to sabotage you and it really is not all about you.
It is about the joy you could bring to another’s life. Why would you hold yourself back from doing that? Do not allow your doubts and fears stand in the way of your service.
Make it about the other person. Determine to put you out in the world because it may make a difference to even one person. and then allow them to show you how much they value what you have done by giving you money.
It is a great exchange – nothing to feel anything but joy about. The marketplace puts a value on what you offer – don’t, don’t, don’t get in the way of that.
