You may even have a group of very engaged readers who come back time and time again for the next shot of your awesomeness and still it is more of a hobby than a real business. In fact, really you treat it as such…
Something you do on the side because you enjoy writing…
And that is okay if that is what you want but maybe it is a part of your business and you really do want to make it generate you some leads rather than just being a time sink from which you cannot seem to get any return. Well, here are a few ways to increase the income from your blog without doing much more than you are currently doing.
You may need an open mind for some of this but it could be the difference between just plugging away incessantly with no reward or for you converting it into something that makes a huge change to you and your business.
Of course, if you do not have an audience and you also do not have the income, it is time to get a lot more deliberate about things to make sure that you keep this baby on the web in a useful form both for you and for the people you are called to serve with your writings.
If you do not have the readers…
Get deliberate about consistently putting out blogs. I find that the more blogs you write, the more the search engines notice you particularly if you are writing to keywords and phrases that your people would be looking for on the web.
So, how many posts are you currently producing a week?
Maybe it is time to double that at the very least and use a tool like the Google Keyword tool to seek out what people in your industry are searching for so that you can create blog posts that address that particular need.
Join groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, get active and see what questions your people are asking and again write blog posts that answer those questions. You can assume that if they are asking the questions, others are too. Do not just spam the groups, try to spend more time being of service to people in the groups.
Set up your own Facebook page and make sure that you promote your blog posts to the people on it. Never assume that people will come look for you. Please understand that it is a privilege to serve the people in your world so never take it for granted.
Another options here is to do guest posts on other people’s sites and attract the attention of their own readers. If done well, this can get you the attention of a whole new set fo readers who invite more people along with them if they like what they see.
If you have the readers but no income…
There are a few things to consider here and one of them is pretty silly sounding and yet, I have seen people make the same mistake over and over again and in fact, I too have been known to make this same mistake.
The mistake is having nothing to sell!
Do you have anything you are offering people or did you think they would just start sending money your way by magic? You may have started the blog because you enjoy it and it grew while you were busy having fun which is great. However, you realise now that you want to monetize it and you are uncertain how to do it. Start by asking people who read what they want to find out more about and consider creating a product if that is your thing or become an affiliate for someone else who creates the product.
Make sure you test it out so that when you recommend things to people who trust you, they are not horrified by the crappiness of the product.
Searching for product ideas – Go to Clickbank.com, Commission Junction, and a whole lot more. Or you may even go directly to the vendor of the product or service you are interested in and come to an agreement about how much you earn as a result of the business you send their way.
This way, you can keep doing what you do best – the writing – and then you recommend other people’s products instead of creating your own.
The idea with these networks is that you install a plugin on your site which scans your current content and adds links to various products and services that may be related. You then get a commission if people buy from you that way. This is another way to monetize your blog posts without distracting you too much from the work of producing them.
OK, that is enough to get started with.
Time to fight for and create the life, the business you want.
